AI Technology Replacement Sparks Urgent Call for Tax Reforms, Says Andrew Yang

NEW YORK / RankWire.AI / — Andrew Yang, the former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and co-founder of the Forward Party, renewed his advocacy for implementing a national AI tax on Tuesday. He warned that current fiscal policies are skewing the labor market by providing unintended subsidies to automation. During his appearance on CNBC, Yang, CEO of Noble Mobile, highlighted that hefty employer payroll taxes discourage hiring of human workers. He argued that the existing tax system effectively incentivizes corporate automation by exempting software deployment from comparable labor costs.

Academic institutions conduct research studies analyzing technology impacts on national workforces.

In the interview, Yang emphasized that under present tax laws, companies bear substantial payroll taxes and healthcare expenses when employing human staff. In stark contrast, firms that integrate artificial intelligence solutions face no equivalent labor taxes, resulting in reduced operating costs for automated workforce options. The Noble Mobile CEO stressed that the legal framework implicitly promotes corporate management to accelerate replacing human labor with automation across key economic sectors.

Andrew Yang Declares: We’re Financing a Technology That Will Displace Millions

Yang suggested a strategic policy shift that would reallocate fiscal responsibility away from traditional payroll taxes toward automated compute tokens and AI-generated revenue streams. Referencing recent remarks by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who proposed a 3 percent revenue tax on generative AI systems, Yang contended that taxing interactions with automated software offers a practical method to balance market dynamics. He further asserted that revenue from an AI tax should be directly redistributed to citizens as universal cash dividends, rather than channeled into legacy retraining initiatives.

The debate over policy occurs amid rising economic concerns about workplace automation in the United States. A recent joint survey by CNBC and Generation Lab found that 45 percent of young Americans aged 18 to 34 believe artificial intelligence will have a negative effect on their long-term careers. Additionally, macroeconomic analysis by Bridgewater Associates executives estimates that automation could impact approximately 18 percent of all domestic jobs over the next five years.

Rapid Industry Changes Displace Customer Service Employees

Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that customer service departments employ roughly 2.9 million workers nationwide, making it one of the first sectors to undergo swift automation restructuring. Yang warned that government-funded workforce retraining efforts have historically failed to transition displaced industrial and administrative workers into sustainable careers. He pointed to past retraining programs for coal miners and warehouse workers as evidence that direct financial aid provides more stability than federal job placement initiatives.

Yang concluded that legislative reforms are crucial for ensuring human workers can remain competitive alongside advancing software agents. Since current tax policies subsidize a technology poised to replace millions of jobs, he stressed that establishing neutral tax policies is vital to managing the ongoing digital transformation in the labor market. Experts are actively reviewing legislative proposals to address automation-related disruption in upcoming congressional sessions.
